A New Horizon
04:00
|
|||
Blew into town on the northern wind
a simple place but a pit of sin
I met a man he said he’d be my friend
with steely eyes and a shark toothed grin
He set me up and tried to bring me down
I called him out then people gathered round then what they saw made them lose their minds
I left that town as it burnt behind and I… Set my sights on a new horizon
across the sea so black
I set my sights on a new horizon
never looking back
Down n out at a seaside port
a troubled place where jacks n gypsies fought
The night was hot hypnotic music played
across the sky the lunar minstrels blazed
The liquor flowed and the tempers flared
set down my glass and I left them there
A mighty swell then brewed out at sea
it’s crushing waves set that whole place clean and I… When you’re stagnant for too long
you’ll see nothing but the wrong
When you play the hangman
it’s your noose you’re swingin from

Her Town
03:58
|
|||
She’s on the street at just fourteen
she’s sellin’ art she’s sellin’ poetry
Got her dad’s leather jacket
got a goon bag a bottle of pills
It’s not the life she sought
more of a last resort
but since those bastards kicked her out
Well this is all she’s got
Give her some time, she’ll tell her stories
but there aint one of tears to glory
A new born sister she’s never laid eyes upon
born with the same affliction – her mother’s addiction
This is her town tonight
from the courthouse steps to the casino light
This is her town tonight
street smart sister’s gonna make it alright
She hopes the time will come
where she will find someone
To take her out of this hole
to a little place in the sun
She’s gonna change her ways
lay off the booze and haze
Take the next job she can get
and find somewhere to stay
Then came a boy who said his heart was true
we’ll take this world baby just me ‘n’ you
He took her and her money for a ride and left her with a broken heart again
she took the next lift outta town on the northbound train
She never settled down, no she moves from town to town
She like a ghost now, might’ve seen her but you’d never know
She’s in a squat in London town, roaming the hill tops of Chile
She’s in a valiant coupe with the windows down on the Gunbarrel Highway
She is freedom, the night sky her only friend
She is freedom, a soul rebel until the end

Fields of the Fallen
01:59
|
|||
I don’t waste my time building fences
I’d rather tear them down
and by the river that runs so deep
through every town
I’m diplomatic, free range cultivator
with a system sustained by PMA generator
and in the oceans of those who doubt
swims the school of those who shout
Let freedom reign
over fields of the fallen
be the change
in the pocket of the poor
I presume all you consume is an afterthought
in the lives you wrought
but if you put back as much as you’ve taken
you’ll bring home more than the bacon
see them dance in the flames of the riot act
and revel in the madness of the next trade pact
we’re frequency jamming to say
we’re frequency jamming to say

Rags to Rags
04:53
|
|||
I’m not free, I never was
Hangin’ out with societies failures, all I got
Don’ t know what you want
but I know what you need
Hard lessons learnt wear ‘em on your sleeve
step out of the cold and move to this beat
If the fight gets hot, the songs get hotter still
If the going gets tough, the songs get tougher still
In your darkest day there to guide your way
to your day in the sun to give thanks and praise
Stand up, stay true, stay strong
it’s the only way
From rags to rags I’ve spent every shell
When you’re stuck in third gear it’s like there’s no way out
All I wanted and all I got
comes from these three chords
don’t break my heart
Give me strength, turn up the stereo
Give me a voice, give me somewhere to go
I’ve come to far, I can’t back down
I've come too far I can't back down
keep on keeping it on ‘til the music shuts down
My wage is gone it was too hard to keep
but singing from the heart seems to shed some light in the dark
So I'll sing out sing loud at the crowd about glory days

Cold Light
05:00
|
|||
I remember the cold light on her face
just as I realized it was not my place
Lost to the chaos of the night
I sat alone under the street light
Pick up my feet and take me far away from here
time to forget, time to make it all disappear
That never works, cos once you’ve had it in your sights
images burn, etched forever in your mind
So I’ll hold them close for now
cos this heart may not burn that bright again
So many nights I’ve lied awake
in thought of words that I’d never say
I could count the stars as chances lost
but now I know the final cost
Like when you said, every path must meet its end
like when you said; the next stops mine my friend

Brothers
02:01
|
|||
My father left my mother when i was only four
he left us all behind and slammed the fucking door
I could not understand he left us all alone
my brothers raised me to a sound track of rock n roll
Times got hard and times got tough
but if one would fall the other would pick them up
We shared some tears and some fist fights
but all in all we stood side by side
Now in my bedroom at twelve years old
I'd sit and listen to records my brothers would bring home
thosw songs would hit me like a bullet to the chest
Drew bought me my first guitar i guess you know the rest
Turn up the volume light up the stage
who would've thought things would turn out this way
Strike a chord to the drums and bass
if not for my brothers I’d not be here today

Sleep Well Tonight
04:39
|
|||
Sleep well tonight
your bed the bodies of the slain
Blood coats the walls
your lullaby their screams of pain
No roof, night sky
their eyes the stars that never fade
There’s no escape
from this fate which you have made
Sleep well tonight
No you aint dreaming
There’s no retreat, no end in sight

Looking Out
04:24
|
|||
Looking out over the sunrise skyline
where do I begin to tell you what I saw last night
Like a cannonball of flame we shot across the stratosphere
together all as one never knowing fear
With a big boom crash
a collision of worlds
At first there seemed nothing left
but a new galaxy was birthed
As sure the light brings the day
even the brightest star will fade
This you know…but in the darkness it will always glow
If you break it all down you’ll have nothing left,
try to put it back together but the pieces won’t fit
It’s the mystery, it’s the side unseen
Looking out over the smoke stack skyline
where the pistons pump and the gears keep crunching
The engine floods with blue collar blood while the battery
is charged and drained again and again like our humanity
If the flames rise in the east
and the rain falls in the west
Will the whole thing run as hot and clean
as the heart in this man’s chest
We’re burning up in the heat and the haze
enslaved…automatons in a mecha-maze
Looking out over the sunset skyline
I hear their primal calls I see them swinging from the tree vine
It’s feeding time in the maniacal crackpots menagerie
We break the chains that bind…and we’re running free…

Chasing a Rat
02:42
|
|||
It’s like chasing a rat with infectious disease
crossing the land with insidious ease
Chasing a rat with its black heart burning
fueled by the blood of the starlit millions
Chasing a rat in the digital meltdown
a toxic soup bubbling over flames of the boomtown
Chasing a rat of black death and white lies
a cancerous filth forever clouding your eyes
Chasing a rat through a Perspex maze
under constant inspection from the hand that feeds
Chasing a rat in this white wash variegation
it’s the blood of your lover dripping off the hands of the nation
Chasing a rat and when you look at its eye
it’s a total enigma the anxiety will paralyze
Chasing a rat it’ll steal away your trust
come from below to scurry with the filth on the upper crust
Chasing a rat through our humble beginnings
as you get deeper down the hole the pickings get slimmer
Chasing a rat but this snake has fangs
you’ll feel the venom rush to your heart then you’ll be cleansed.
They’ll dig so low… there’ll be no underground
They’ll dig so low… there’ll be no underground
They’ll dig so low… it’s gonna breakdown
They’ll dig so low… it’s gonna shutdown

Tones of Dirt & Bone
03:16
|
|||
3am she wakes again, in a cold sweat terrified
from a nightmare torn from pages of a life she can’t leave behind
A picture painted with the brush of anger and distrust
could never really capture, the gold beneath the crus
Had I known when I last looked in your eyes
could we have set things straight, made everything alright?
In moments fleeting, I was dreaming
of images in faded tones, of dirt and bone
Never a misfit you just didn’t belong
with those small town minds and their same sad song
What was the pledge that we made?
the will of the few will never be outweighed
It was time to set out the new century called
but on that tight rope walk you were bound to fall
Always with hope, without guidance
into the days of blindness
Galvanized by the pulse of the city heat
trying so hard but sometimes young hearts skip a beat
The more that you struggle, the further you sink
it's at times like this I can't help but think

Silent World
01:12
|
|||
A high school dropout, said his head couldn’t cope
so he took to the streets and started sellin’ dope
Two years later he was in the can
four years more left him a hardened man
You’d hear him screamin’ in a silent world
Judgin’ judges, fuckin’ suicide girls
Sometime later he was on parole
this Don Juan devil found himself a girl
He had her wrapped around his finger with her heart and soul
he said stick with me baby and we’ll take the world
He’s got a new girl now
she’s seen it all before
Is this his next big hit?
now watch his heart explode!

Armageddon A.D.
03:07
|
|||
Igorance is bliss? Was there an exit sign I missed?
I’ve seen so much trouble on this road I travel
I carry it with me over dirt and gravel
you take the overnight express, or the back road travelled less
I say it aint so much about where you’re going
but where you came from is just as well worth knowing
You gotta listen before you sing aloud
it’s not in scripture, you can’t read about it
and when you taste it, you gotta savor that before
Armageddon’s at your door
When the clouds roll in so black, creep in the thoughts you should turn back
but this is how you’ve been torn since the day you were born
Just know the night is darkest before the dawn
When that sky has fallen down, and only baron waste surrounds
just scratch the surface ‘cos here what grows
Is worth so much more than you’ll ever know

Blood From Stone
04:54
|
|||
Born to dwell in the stagnated hell of a third generation family
Dad says this land is all he’s had and all you’ll have to remember him
but free markets weren’t in place when they built your future
and your livelihood not expendable
So with your taxes you’ll pay them to take it away
Blood from a stone? That’s incredible!
He lived a life
in the shadows of plight
No future in sight
so he’s leaving
Leaving tonight
the season is right
There’s nothing to gain
when each new seed’s washed out with the rain
What can you do when you gotta start anew
you gotta take what you can get I guess
but when the factories are closing and the army’s for fools
you’ve never known any more than this
Well come in son the parties just begun
but never turn your back
Once bitten twice shy but on the second time
you best be prepared to bite back
